Finding Bobby, the gentle giant…
Bobby was sterilised by the HSAM team in April 2014. He was living as a guard dog (grrr!) on a building site, tied up just outside the Medina wall. A you can see from the photos, Bobby is hardly a fearsome chap!
When we returned in November 2014, he was no longer a guard dog (hurrah!); the workers had moved on and left him behind! We were delighted to see him running free on the beach!
He had a fun life in Essaouira, playing with the other dogs, but life wasn’t always good… on one occasion he walked on chemicals that burned his feet and another time suffered a massive wound to his side. Thankfully, Tom, a local man gave him sanctuary until he was well enough to go back home.
We arrived back in Essaouira this year to hear from locals that Bobby had been killed. We were heartbroken…
The following week we heard that a number of dogs that we had treated had been taken to another town along the coast. The following day, Claire and Mbarek (the truck driver) headed there to see if they could find any dogs with the blue tags in their ears that identified them as ‘HSAM’ dogs. As soon as they arrived, Claire got out of the truck and, to her amazement, there was Bobby walking towards her. Bobby was alive!
He is now looked after by two people who adore him! He has the freedom to play on the beach and to swim in the sea every day…
HSAM continues to keep in contact with Bobby’s new carers, to keep up-to-date with his progress.
